What Jesus Did! 'A Second Desperate Person' — Luke 8:43-44

Thursday, May 25, 2023

A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.

Key Thought

Jairus, who is mentioned in the previous verses, [1] wasn't the only person desperate for Jesus' help. A woman was equally despairing. Jairus was the ruler of the synagogue, was financially secure, and could have had many who would plead his case for him, but he was desperate enough to come himself. Also, there was a woman who was kept from the synagogue since she was ritually unclean under Jewish law because of her hemorrhaging. She was without money and was all alone as she approached Jesus. [2] However, these people from opposite extremes had two things in common: First, they had a great need; and second, they both had faith that Jesus could do something miraculous for them. In each case, as the two stories will tell us, they received their miracle and more. The message for us? No matter who we are or where we come from, Jesus loves us and will help us if we will come to him in faith.

Today's Prayer

Father, I believe, but help my belief to be stronger and more vital. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
