Unstoppable! 'Once, Twice, and a Third Time' — Acts 11:10

Friday, June 19, 2026

[Peter continued explaining why he went to Cornelius' house to tell him about Christ:] "This [vision and voice declaring things clean] happened three times before the sheet and all it contained was pulled back up to heaven."

Key Thought

God made something important about the number three. God describes himself as Father, Son, and Spirit. We remember three items better than two or four. Paul refers to the "key three" - faith, hope, and love - as a test of maturity. Most of our mommas told us, "I warned you once. I warned you twice. Don't make me warn you a third time!" Of course, the threat of a third warning was a cloaked third warning. Most of us knew not to press beyond that one! Luke made clear in many ways that God led Peter to convert Cornelius and his friends and family. Peter made clear to his critics and questioners that God spoke to him three times! Peter did what God insisted that he do.

Today's Prayer

Lord, the Father of grace and mercy who is also God Almighty, forgive me when I doubt your servants whom you have called to your mission. Forgive me for the times when I've not encouraged them, have been disappointing to them, didn't support them properly, didn't follow through with my promises, and forgot what was most important to them. In asking for forgiveness, Lord, I am also committing to do better and be better to your servants. I ask for the Holy Spirit's help in living into the commitment I am making. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
