In an old movie, there was a young man who was trying to get up his nerve to talk to a girl that he admired. He got up his nerve and went over to her. Then he blurted out, "You are my density!" What he meant to say was, "You are my destiny."

When we think about the Christmas story, we think of the destiny of Jesus Christ. He was born in a humble manger, but his destiny was to die on the cross for our sins. Even some of the Christmas Carols mention that He is Lord at his birth and that myrrh was given to Him symbolizing His death.

Should we have a sense of destiny in our lives? Yes! Paul declared, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV)God has plans for our lives. David said it like this:

"For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance,
being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance,
being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them."
(Psalm 139:13-16)

"You are my density!"
My daughter recently went on a short term mission trip to Honduras. She went to an orphanage with over 400 children in it. Staying at the orphanage were some girls that were volunteering their time from Denmark. Some of them were not believers and my daughter had a chance to talk with them about her faith in Christ. One of the things that she talked about was having purpose in her life.

Fulfilling God's purposes for our lives is one of the most gratifying things I can imagine. As we think of the destiny of the Christ Child and the beginning of a new year for each of us, let's ponder on what God's destiny may be for our lives.
