If God feels about the weather like he did about Laodicea then he must be really happy with Texas this month. He told Laodicea, "I wish you were either cold or hot ..." Well it is extremely hot right now! The weather man keeps giving the heat index as over 100 degrees. I don't think I like the idea of a heat index. It never seemed as hot when they just said it was 97 degrees as it does when they say the heat index is 105. A lot of that has to do with one's perception, doesn't it?

Perception is an interesting study. I have often been reminded by a friend that perception is fact to the one who holds it. Heat index or not, I perceive it to be very hot!

Do you suppose God was saying that he liked extremes? I rather doubt it. It would seem to me that He was more likely desiring that one either get in or get out. The fact that they could not make up their minds left Him with no choice but to expel them.

There are few things more frustrating than to deal with someone who can't make up his or her mind. I remember being soundly scolded by a merchant friend years ago for a comment I made to one of his customers. I walked into his sporting goods store and the customer, recognizing me as one that played racquetball regularly, asked my opinion on a pair of shoes. I responded that they were good shoes, but I preferred another brand. He returned the shoes to the shelf and held the recommenced pair for several minutes, then returned them and walked out. What I had not known was that he had nearly driven the store owner to distraction by coming in numerous times, questioning him about the best choice and then leaving without deciding. On the occasion of my visit, he had finally settled on a pair and was in the process of purchasing them when I disrupted his decision. I don't know if he ever made a choice again, but I do know he returned several more times.

Jesus commented once, "For he who is not against us is for us." (Mark 9:40 NASB) A more common quotation in our time is the inversion of this text. "He who is not for us is against us." While they can both be interpreted in slightly different ways, the point is still that one must choose a side.

If you are for Him, then let it be clearly shown.
There is no middle of the road on some matters. Sin is certainly one of those matters. Trusting God is another prominent one. With Joshua of old, God still cries out, "Chose you this day whom you will serve ..."

There is an old political joke which presents the politician responding to a question by saying, "I have friends on both sides of that question and I am staying with my friends." God will not take that for an answer! He is looking for commitment. If you are for Him, then let it be clearly shown in your words and deeds. If not, then get out of the way and quit giving comfort to evil while professing to be good.

Yes, it is hot indeed, and the heat index is higher than the temperature. For God still says, "I wish you were either cold or hot ..."
