What Jesus Did! 'The Slave Trade' — John 8:33-34

Sunday, June 19, 2022

"But we are descendants of Abraham," [the Jews] said. "We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, 'You will be set free'?"

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin."

— John 8:33-34 NLT

Key Thought

Sin captures us. Sin enslaves us. Sin abuses us. Sin brings us to death. When sin infects us and takes root, it becomes addictive and destructive. If we are going to enjoy the freedom the Lord longs to give us, then we must also commit to live for him and turn away from sin. We can, by the Spirit's power, put to death the power of sin, but we must also make it our commitment to leave it behind!

Today's Prayer

Father, God of grace and power, please deliver me from the sin that entangles me and keeps me from being all that you have made me to be. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
