Together in Christ: 'Valuing Those Who Invest in Us!' — Proverbs 16:20-21

Wednesday, July 26, 2023

Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.
— Proverbs 16:20-21 NLT

Key Thought

All too often, our insecurities and defensiveness can lead us to avoid people in our lives who are older, more experienced, and deeply spiritual. We can feel intimidated or "less than" when these potential spiritual friends and mentors are near us. Worse, we can accept their time and attention but not apply what they say, show, and live before us.

If we fully trust that the Lord is at work in our lives to guide us to the people we need to bless us, and for us to bless, [1] we must value those who are willing to invest in us. [2] Their example of faith and words of instruction can help us to be discerning, wise, and spiritually mature. If we are open to the instruction, guidance, and mentoring of others, the Lord will then lead us to people we can bless with our time and wisdom! [3]

Today's Prayer

Father, thank you for the wise mentors and spiritually mature friends who have invested their interest, time, and wisdom in me. Forgive me for the times I was not more appreciative. Awaken me to the blessing of those still investing themselves into me to mature me to be more like Jesus. Open my heart to appropriately express my appreciation and guide me to those I can be a similar blessing. In Jesus' name, I pray this. Amen.
