What Jesus Did! 'The Hard Moment of Trust' — Luke 8:49-50

Saturday, May 27, 2023

While [Jesus] was still speaking to [the woman who had been healed by touching his robe], a messenger arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. He told him, "Your daughter is dead. There's no use troubling the Teacher now."

But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed."

— Luke 8:49-50 NLT

Key Thought

For nearly all of us, a time of crisis will descend, and everything we hold dear will appear to be lost. Faith may never have been hard for us before this crisis, but the challenges we face can become our moment of truth. Will our faith hold? Is what we believe true? Can we trust Jesus in our crisis, even when we can't see a positive outcome? When all seems lost, and everyone else has doubts, it is in this kind of moment that Jesus comes to us and says, "Don't be afraid. Just have faith!"

Today's Prayer

Holy God, the Lord Almighty, please help my faith hold firm in the worst of times and keep me pure and undistracted at all times, including the times when things in my life are going so well that I may lose sight of my need for you. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
