Together in Christ: 'Who Is God Except the Lord?' — 2 Samuel 22:31-34

Tuesday, December 2, 2025

[David sang,] "God's way is perfect. All the Lord's promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights."

Key Thought

Many of us enjoy living with a bit of adventure, uncertainty, and danger. However, sometimes life grows confusing, complicated, and terrifying. In times like these, we realize that we need something, or better yet, we desperately need our divine Someone - our shield, shelter, and solid ground. Only God can be that strong, ordering, and sure foundation. Only God's ways are perfect, and only His promises are always true. King David had learned these truths as a shepherd boy, confirmed them as a warrior, and sang about them as Israel's King!

Our relationship devotional yesterday emphasized the importance of staying with God and having our lives orbit around Him as planets orbit around the sun. Today, we deepen that understanding. We want to do more than orbit around God. We want to develop our relationship with the Almighty, our Abba Father, and realize that His presence in our lives gives us stability, hope, guidance, protection, and a secure future with Him in glory. We choose to stay with God. We also choose to journey into the future with God - loving Him, obeying Him, and living into His purpose as He secures our future with Him!

Today's Prayer

God, You are the great I Am! You are the God Who is and was and is to come. I do not fear the future because I know You are already there waiting to greet me in my journey to You. You shaped the past to bring Jesus to us as the fulfillment of Your prophecies to send Your Messiah and Savior. So, dear Father, I trust You with my present. I believe You will bring me through whatever is happening in my life and bring me to You with great joy. I trust that Your promises are true, Your protection is real, and life with You is on solid ground. I thank You for this security and hope that I have in You. In Jesus' name, I offer You my thanks and my praise. Amen.
