Spiritual Warfare: 'Self-Examination Before Communion'

God's Power for Our Battles — Sunday, June 29, 2025

So then, you should each examine yourself first, and then eat the bread and drink from the cup. For if you do not recognize the meaning of the Lord's body when you eat the bread and drink from the cup, you bring judgment on yourself as you eat and drink. That is why many of you are sick and weak, and several have died.

Today's Prayer

Lord, help me to look at my life and examine my motives and focus before I take communion. Forgive me for being so frivolous and unfocused during the Lord’s Supper at times in the past. Give me a fresh set of eyes to see clearly the meaning of Jesus' body in the future. I don’t want to bring judgment on myself by partaking of it in an unworthy manner, Lord. Please help me to think about the meaning the Lord's body means - both His body on the cross and His Body, the people of His church, with whom I share the Lord's Supper. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
