Jesus did not hang on to his heavenly glory but surrendered it all to save us. Now Paul asks us to follow Jesus' example and share his heart. You see, the great apostle to the nations, Paul, expended every ounce of his human energy working to see Jesus come alive in those he led to the
Lord (
Colossians 1:28-29). He reminded them - and us as well - that as we focus on Jesus, hear his words, obey his teaching, and follow his example, then the Holy Spirit will transform us with increasing likeness to become like our Savior. So, he teaches the Philippians, and all who read this letter to them, that we must serve and treat each other as Jesus has served and treated us. We must think of their needs and God's will before our own comfort, preferences, or rights. Jesus' incarnation, ministry, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection were revolutionary. Now it is our turn to join the revolution and turn our fallen world upside down, treating each other as Jesus treated us. YES! That is one revolution I am giving my life to see happen today. I hope you will join me!
O Father, please transform my heart and mind through the transforming power of your Holy Spirit as I pursue becoming more JESUShaped. I want my thoughts to be your thoughts. I want my heart's desire to reflect the passions of your Son. I yearn for the Spirit to guide my mind and heart. Please forgive my tendency to cling to my own sense of self-importance, selfish desires, and self-justification. I know those "normal" worldly traits are not consistent with the way Jesus lived or wants me to live as one of his disciples. Please transform my heart and mind to be more like those of your Son, in whose name I pray. Amen.
