I have always loved a "whodunit" mystery. Years ago I was captivated by the popular television series "Colombo." Dressed in a shabby old raincoat, Peter Faulk would bumble around appearing to be totally clueless. But in the end, he always got his man.

Many times, a large piece of evidence that would solve the mystery involved fingerprints. Unseen by the natural eye, fingerprints would be left on a glass, a door knob, or perhaps on an object that was not obvious. The fingerprints were undeniable evidence that a specific person was involved.

Fingerprint identification is a part of forensic science that is presumed infallible. According to established testing and experience, no two fingerprints are alike.

When I think about that fact, I think of the creativity of God. Of all the billions of people on earth, each one is different.

For You formed my inward parts;

You covered me in my mother's womb.

I will praise You,

For I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Marvelous are Your works,

And that my soul knows very well. (Psalm 139:13-14)

God is the Master Weaver. He made every person unique.

Another distinctive trait of fingerprints is they do not change. As I get older, my body is changing. Not for the better, I might add. My eyesight is getting weaker. When I was younger, I had the eyes of an eagle. Today, I am lucky to be able to see an eagle. My wrinkles are more visible. Earlier in life, I had crow's feet around my eyes. Well now, my crow's feet have grown legs. And, they are not short legs, mind you, but very long legs that resemble a highway on a Rand McNally map. My stomach is getting ... well, you know, the opposite of smaller.

What about God's fingerprints? God is divinely unique.

O LORD God of hosts,

Who is mighty like You, O LORD?

Your faithfulness also surrounds You.

You rule the raging of the sea;

When its waves rise, You still them. (Psalm 89:7-8)

I see the evidence of God's fingerprints everywhere.
Another characteristic of God is that He does not change. He is immutable. "For I, the Lord, do not change ..." (Malachi 3:6). People change. Circumstances change. The Lord, however, does not change. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8).

In my daily walk, I see the evidence of God's fingerprints everywhere. Some would call them coincidences. Some would call them good fortune. But, I know better. It is not a "whodunit" mystery to me. The evidence of His love, and mercy, and grace are undeniable evidence that He is involved.

Father God, I praise You for creating me in my mother's womb. I thank You that You are not a cookie cutter God. You create every person uniquely. I also thank You for never changing. We live in a world that is constantly changing and filled with uncertainty. However, You are always the same. Thank you for involving Yourself in every detail of my life. Your divine fingerprints are invisible to my natural eye. But, by faith, I see them everywhere.
