Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Maybe one of the most important things we can do to grow in spiritual maturity is to become passionate about the right things. We can get riled up about some of the most inconsequential issues. We can get wildly passionate about everything from sports to chocolate pie. So, we must anchor our zeal and passion in spiritual wisdom with an understanding of what truly matters to God. Otherwise, we can get worked up over something insignificant and completely miss the will of the Lord. We can become blinded by our passions and forget God's mission. While I want zealous people around me, I want us to be zealous for God's concerns and Kingdom issues.

My Prayer...

Powerful and perfect God, I find it easy to get "all wound up" about something and then lose my zeal for it by the next morning. I can get so roused to action I go off "half-cocked" and do terrible damage in my bluster and haste. Dear Father, please give me the wisdom to see what is best, right, true, and spiritually significant. I want to serve and honor you as I seek to bless others in your name, dear Father. So I pray for both zeal and holy wisdom to guide me. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
