Checking Out Jesus - Mark 3:7-8Jesus went away with his followers to the lake. Many people from Galilee followed him. Many, many people also came from Judea, from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from the area across the Jordan River, and from the area around Tyre and Sidon. These people came because they heard about all the things Jesus was doing. (ERV) Full Text Key Thought So often the people who think they don't believe in Jesus have never been exposed to Jesus. Jesus meets us in many ways, but there are at least two ways that are crucial for most unbelievers. One of the most important ways for folks to meet Jesus is by experiencing him through the Gospel stories. (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John contain these Gospel stories in the New Testament.) A second way for outsiders to experience Jesus is through the presence of Jesus in the world today -- through the compassion, care, and character of Jesus' Body, the people of his church. In both of these cases, the invitation is nearly always the same: "Come. See for yourself!" One of our biggest opportunities to bring people to Christ is to invite them to meet Jesus and not just trust what they've heard about him. So let's invite people to do this by giving away free copies of the Gospels to others (The Bible societies offer these very economically!), inviting them to appropriate movies, or giving them historically accurate video copies of Jesus' life. Let's invite folks to come "meet" Jesus and "see him for themselves." Today's Prayer NEW: Get Phil's What Jesus Did devotional in a paperback book. Click here to find out more! Jesus went away with his followers to the lake. Many people from Galilee followed him. Many, many people also came from Judea, from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from the area across the Jordan River, and from the area around Tyre and Sidon. These people came because they heard about all the things Jesus was doing. Jesus saw the many people. So he told his followers to get a small boat and make it ready for him. Jesus wanted the boat so that the many, many people would not push against him. Jesus had healed many people. So all the sick people were pushing toward him to touch him. Some people had evil spirits {from the devil} inside them. When the evil spirits saw Jesus, they bowed before him and shouted, "You are the Son of God!" But Jesus commanded the spirits strongly not to tell people who he was. Mark 3:7-12 (ERV)
