Enduring Glory - John 17:24

"Father, I want these people that you have given me to be with me in every place I am. I want them to see my glory. This is the glory you gave me because you loved me before the world was made." (ERV) Full Text

Key Thought

So often, we try to find glory for ourselves while we are here on earth. In our brief span of years, we try all sorts of ways to gain glory in the eyes of others. True glory, however, only comes from the Lord! Jesus longs to share his eternal glory with us. He had this with God before coming to earth. He has it now as he sits at the Father's side. Even now, Jesus longs to share his glory with us. He longs to have us by his side and to gaze at him in all his heavenly glory along with the glory of his angels. Let's look forward to this future with anticipation as we wait for the day we will see Jesus, face to face, in all of his glory.

O Lord God, my glorious heavenly Father, I long for the day that I can see you and your Son in all of your glory. I know my limited imagination cannot even begin to grasp the beauty, majesty, and brilliance of your glory. Please stir my passion and steel my will to live for that day of glory with purity and holiness. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verses in Context

"I am coming to you now. But I pray these things while I am still in the world. I say these things so that these men can have the true happiness that I have. I want them to be completely happy. I have given them your teaching. And the world has hated them. The world hated these men, because they don't belong to the world, the same as I don't belong to the world. I am not asking you to take them out of the world. But I am asking that you keep them safe from the Evil One (the devil). They don't belong to the world, the same as I don't belong to the world. Make them ready for your service through your truth. Your teaching is truth. I have sent them into the world, the same as you sent me into the world. I am making myself ready to serve. I do this for them, so that they can truly be ready for your service. "I pray for these men. But I am also praying for all people that will believe in me because of the teaching of these men. Father, I pray that all people that believe in me can be one. You are in me and I am in you. I pray that these people can also be one in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me. I have given these people the glory that you gave me. I gave them this glory so that they can be one, the same as you and I are one. I will be in them, and you will be in me. So they will be completely one. Then the world will know that you sent me. And the world will know that you loved these people the same as you loved me. "Father, I want these people that you have given me to be with me in every place I am. I want them to see my glory. This is the glory you gave me because you loved me before the world was made. Father, you are the One who is good. The world does not know you, but I know you. And these people know that you sent me. I showed them what you are like. And again I will show them what you are like. Then they will have the same love that you have for me. And I will live in them."

John 17:13-26 (ERV)

The Father (God) has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God. And we really are God's children. But the people in the world (people who don't believe) don't understand that we are God's children, because they have not known him (God). Dear friends, now we are children of God. We have not yet been shown what we will be in the future. But we know that when Christ comes again, we will be like him. We will see him like he really is. Christ is pure. And every person who has this hope in Christ keeps himself pure like Christ.1 John 3:1-3 (ERV)

We have sufferings now. But the sufferings we have now are nothing compared to the great glory that will be given to us. Everything that God made is waiting with excitement for the time when God will show the world who his children are. The whole world wants very much for that to happen. Everything God made was changed to be like it was worth nothing. It did not want to change, but God decided to change it. But there was this hope: That everything God made would be made free from ruin (decay). There was hope that everything God made would have the freedom and glory that belong to God's children. We know that everything God made has been waiting until now in pain like a woman ready to give birth to a child. Not only the world, but we also have been waiting with pain inside us. We have the Spirit as the first part of God's promise. So we are waiting for God to finish making us his own children. I mean we are waiting for our bodies to be made free. We were saved, and we have this hope. If we can see what we are waiting for, then that is not really hope. People don't hope for something they already have. But we are hoping for something that we don't have yet. We are waiting for it patiently.Romans 8:18-25 (ERV)

When the body is "planted," it is without honor. But it is raised in glory. When the body is "planted," it is weak. But when it is raised, it has power.1 Corinthians 15:43 (ERV)
