Who is Paul Lee?

The fundamental makeup of this Paul Lee character can be broken down into several categories for analysis:

Personal | Family | Church | Career | Music | Reading | Diversions

PERSONAL

I am, I suppose, a pretty regular guy. I graduated from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon with a degree in Middle Eastern History, and in particular concentrated on Yemen, a beautiful and fascinating place. I also attended Abilene Christian University and enjoyed it MUCH more than PSU. Pity about that whole money thing... I live and work in Leander, Texas, just outside of Austin, where the bar-be-que is always fine!

FAMILY

I am lucky enough to have a beautiful, supportive wife, Sheri, that will put up with my many idiosyncrasies. We’ve been married for over 13 years now and I’d say things are going swimmingly. God has blessed us with a daughter, now 9 years old, whom we love more than life itself. She always keeps us busy, that’s for sure... And we have a handsome son, now 4 years old! Of course, he looks just like his dad... And then, another addition, another daughter, already one year old. And we've got one more on the way!

CHURCH

Serving the Lord and his people is terribly important to me. My family attends the Leander Church of Christ. My most fervent desire is to use the skills and interests I have to introduce people to Christ and his church. That’s why I’ve joined Phil in the Heartlight project. As Heartlight’s webmaster and chief designer, I’m striving to make this very low-budget operation look, feel and operate like a national class e-zine.

CAREER

I’m now working full-time with Heartlight.org, soon to be the most popular Christian site on the Net. I do Perl stuff, Linux stuff, Photoshop stuff, plan stuff, and answer a TON of email.

MUSIC

Over the years, and due especially to my working my way through college at record stores, I’ve accumulated a decent (my wife says “embarassingly large”) CD collection. My musical tastes are widely varied, encompassing everything from King’s X to Rush to Galactic Cowboys to Giant Sand to Guadalcanal Diary to Stryper, Bruce Cockburn, Wilco, Son Volt, Old 97's, Self and every sort of thing in between.

READING

First and foremost will always be the Word; I find that the Spirit can really work in my life when I read frequently. When I have the opportunity, I try to fit in a little secular reading. Lately, I’ve been tearing through Patrick O'Brian’s Aubrey/Maturin novels. I also enjoy Naguib Mahfouz, but haven’t seemed to find the time to read him lately. Douglas Adams is always entertaining, and on the poetic side I’ve always loved Gerard Manley Hopkins. Some more of his poems are also available on the web here.

DIVERSIONS

Well, my favorite TV show, MST3K is gone, so I got rid of cable. But take me out to the ballgame... I LOVE baseball. And then there’s donuts.

That about wraps it up for now. Hope you enjoy Heartlight. We’ve tried to make it accessible, helpful, encouraging and uplifting. If we’ve hit on any of those, or missed, I would love to hear from you.
