Randy BectonWhat's Your Dream, by Randy Becton

Real Audio
Listen with RealAudio!
Several springs ago, there was a television special that told the story of Jimmy Valvano. Jimmy was the frenetic, talented basketball coach whose overachieving North Carolina State basketball team beat the Houston Cougars for the national championship 1983. Coach Jimmy V’s slogan was this, “If you can dream it, it can happen!”

Jimmy asked each member of his family what their dream was. Most of them dreamed that he would win the national championship. But when it came time for Jimmy’s father to answer, he looked into his son’s eyes and said, “Jimmy, you are my dream!”

She had resisted God’s love.
Jimmy’s North Carolina State team made it happen. Against all the odds, they beat the heavily favored Houston Cougars. But only ten years later, Jimmy’s dad was dead of a heart attack and his son, Jimmy V, had died of an unstoppable spinal cancer.

The question that arises from Jimmy’s story is, “Do you and I have a dream?”

Do you and I have a dream to live and die by? Do you know what God’s dream is for you and your life?

Like Jimmy’s dad, our Father has a dream and that dream is “us”! The apostle Paul articulates this dream in Romans 8 and verse 29: “Those whom God foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son!”

God’s dream for you and me, is to find victory in Christ and be his child for eternity. So what’s your dream?
