Dr. Paul FaulknerReal Servants, by Dr. Paul Faulkner   Real Audio

I recently read a story about Helen Bruntz, the “Mitten Lady” who died in a nursing home in Watertown, New York. She was knitting mittens until just before her death at age 86. She knitted an estimated 4,000 mittens in the last 47 years; she could probably knit in her sleep!

Helen included a little hand-written tag with each pair saying, “God loves you, and so do I.” And then she gave them to churches and charities and worldwide relief services for poor children. She labored all her life almost anonymously, but she didn’t succeed because her obituary—with a picture—was in the New York Times!

Christ has a way of turning his people into real servants; people who bless others with a smile, a touch, or mittens. Thank God for you servants out there.
