Have you ever walked through the yard of a country church and looked at the cemetery surrounding the little church building? Have you ever examined the headstones and thought about those who died there—the lives they lived, the people they loved, the work they did, the mortality they experienced.
Not long ago, I was reading about a man who walked along a graveyard beside a village church. He wondered about mortality and immortality, and suggested again that the message of this world is a vital lie. It is a message that there is immortality to be made and had and possessed in this world. No, no matter what the scientists do, there is no immortality in our world.
There is no immortality in our world.
That’s why it is always a consoling and true and powerful statement when we turn to the Gospel of Matthew and read what the angels said to the women who came to Jesus’ tomb: “Do not fear! I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here for he has been raised!”
There is the source for your hope...and mine.
