Randy BectonPraying the Psalms, by Randy Becton   Real Audio

Increasingly we do not feel safe, we are becoming more and more insecure because of the violence around us. Is there anything we can do about it? I believe there is something we can do in response to this increasing violence in our world.

First, we can remember that God is the Sovereign Lord over this universe and over each individual life and heart.

I will fear no evil for you are with me!
But there is something else we can do. We can deepen our faith in God’s promises. We can pray the Psalms—that book of prayers that God placed in Scripture so we could know how we can stay close to him in dark times.

Have you ever tried to pray Psalms 74:20-22?

There is violence in every corner of the land. Rise God and defend your cause!

The Psalms are cries to God for help. But they are that and much more. You see, they are cries that God remain close to us in the midst of our insecurities. Try praying this one more regularly:

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for you are with me!
