Be Still!Be Still!
by Tom Norvell

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! (Psalm 46:10)

Father, we have been terrorized. We are frightened. We have become the target of those who consider us the their enemy. We have grown cautious and suspicious.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

    Father, our nation, along with 59 other nations, has been attacked and everyday we learn of a new danger. Every day we are reminded that life has changed. Every day we are reminded of new threats.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

    Father, we fear for our children. We shutter at the thought of the evil they are seeing and may yet see. We dread the suffering they may experience.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

    Father, not only are we being attacked as a nation, but individuals are being attacked by a the great enemy. He wants to weaken us. He wants to destroy us. He wants to distract us. He wants to discredit us.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

    Father, we wonder if our children are safe. They are bombarded with temptation. They are constantly confronted with issues that many adults have never resolved.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

    Father, our churches are battling for survival. There is dissension and distrust. There is selfishness and pride. The enemy does all he can to disrupt our movement toward You.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

    Father, we have allowed ourselves to become overcommitted, overbooked, and over our heads in the things of this world. We pursue goals that do not matter, and ignore what is really important. We are discontent with what we have and disappointed when have more.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

    Father, forgive us. Restore us. Renew us. Revive us. Refresh us. Rebuild us.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.Selah

    There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.Selah

    Come, behold the works of the LORD,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.

    Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

    The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

    We need to be still.
