Randy BectonYou are Wanted, by Randy Becton   Real Audio

Popular writer Skip Hollinsworth was invited to speak at the prestigious Rice University in Houston, Texas. When he arrived at the lecture hall, he was shocked at what he found.

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast... though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” (Isaiah 49:15-16, NIV)
Skip is a prolific writer for Texas Monthly Magazine. Recently some honors students invited him to Rice University to give a speech. There were fliers advertising his visit. He spent hours crafting a speech. He then flew to Houston, rented a car, and entered the student center for his 7:00 speech.

At 7:15, his host suggested that they wait a few minutes for late arrivals. By 7:45, the host cancelled the speech. The reason? Not one single student or professor or person from the community showed up for the speech.

How would you feel? Unloved? Unwanted? How would you feel if you had been the speaker no one wanted to hear?

I am very thankful that the Lord is someone who does not forget us. He is someone who has engraved us on the palms of his hands. Jesus Christ is our Savior and eternal friend. We may feel forgotten, but we are not. When we don’t feel wanted, God gives us the cross as a reminder that he wants us in his family and will send his Son back for us to bring us home. We are God’s children because we are wanted and loved by him!
