…she heard these chilling words:  “You’re clinically depressed.”

Hope in the Darkness

A series of painful losses threw Jan Dravecky into a pit of depression. Her life fell to pieces. Thankfully, God helped her open a door of hope.

Jan had been bombarded by a series of agonizing losses. Both of her parents died suddenly. Then her husband, baseball star Dave Dravecky, was diagnosed with cancer. He eventually lost his arm—the arm that made him famous as a pitcher. The stress and sadness tore at Jan’s soul.

When she finally went to the doctors, she heard these chilling words:  “You’re clinically depressed.”

Her first reaction was shock and denial.  “A Christian should never get depressed,” she thought.

As she continued to feel emotionally smothered by the depression, she finally admitted she needed help. Through the tender guidance of Christian counselors, Jan was gradually pulled out of the pit of depression.

One of the greatest insights she received was that all her life she tried to be the savior of everyone in need, instead of allowing herself to rely on the only true Savior. God surprised her with joy—the joy of release in surrendering her life to His control.

If you find yourself relating to Jan’s ordeal, get some help, immediately. You can’t whip clinical depression by yourself. We also have a packet of information I’d love to send you. We want to help. There will be no charge. Start climbing out of your pit today by admitting you need help and taking action to get it.
