The only past president who still teaches Sunday school is the rare former Commander in Chief who will get on the telephone and say, “This is Jimmy,” and will talk about his recently released spiritual biography.

    Of course you know I’m talking about Jimmy Carter. Now his admirers call his style of writing “a down home Christian humility.” He writes with a candor about his failures. But what I like so much about Jimmy Carter’s writing is that he believes with all of his heart that Jesus Christ is the model for servanthood in this world today for each one of us.

    His 11^th book is entitled Living Faith. He says it was his hardest book to write. He believes Jesus’ teachings are difficult to follow. Yet he calls upon all of us to not take the soft approach, but to take seriously Jesus’ example of sharing the gospel with all people and living in helpful ways toward the poor.

    Maybe you won’t read the book, but please remember that he is echoing the words of Jesus the Messiah.
