A time to pray and fast... Example using Day 1

Day 1
A time to be born and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. (Psalm 139:13-16)

What am I supposed to do to help me meditate on this passage?

• Read the passage several times until you can say it by memory.
• Notice the emphasized word (e.g., on day one, "born" is the word) and ask yourself "Why is it a time to be...?" focussing on the emphasized word. Brainstorm some possibilities.

• What does this passage add to our knowledge of it being a time to be born?
• Now focus on what you have discovered and learned in prayer. Using the following ideas as possible guides to your prayer:

  • What people does God's Spirit bring to my attention as I think about it being a time to...? What do I need to pray concerning them and their needs?

  • For what, or for whom, should I give thanks or praise to God knowing that it is a time to...?
