Trusting God

It’s fairly easy to see why bad things happen to bad people. But my students often ask me, “How come bad things happen to good people?”

Of course, I don’t know. And it doesn’t always make sense. For example, my ex-student, a very young, famous medical doctor with six children, has a life threatening cancer in the early prime of his life.

Maybe it’s because we believe that it has to make sense. Where did we get that idea, that it has to make sense? Or that it has to make sense to us? Or that it has to make sense to us now?

I think we’re only seeing a tiny snippet of life in a tiny bit of time with a tiny bunch of dendrots in our brains. So maybe we ought to go back to trust, trust in an all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal God who can see the grand, the powerful picture in timeless life. I bet it would look a lot different from that vantage point.
