A Confidant is Priceless

One of my greatest comforts is that I have a confidant in my wife, Gladys. When I was in trouble up to my neck in a little church forty years ago where I was preaching, I could share with no one else without hurting somebody’s feelings. But I could tell her with no fear of being criticized, and with no fear that anything I shared would go beyond her lips.

A confidant like that is priceless. Where would you go to buy a friend like that? It would take a long time, even for a psychologist, to earn such confidence. A gift like that is priceless. She’s a wife—safe, secure, warm, trustworthy. They are the words that describe the feeling when you have a confidant. When you have a wife. Or as the Bible would say, “A prudent wife is from the Lord.”

So make the rest of the day work a little better for you. If you are fortunate enough to have a confidant, be thankful! And do your best to be a confidant.
