Heart-Capturing Heart-Capturing

The gifted and insightful Soren Kirkegaard told the story about a prince who falls in love with a young peasant maiden. Passing her on the street one day he’s enthralled. It’s love at first sight.

However, this young prince realizes that if he goes to her as a prince, she might welcome his love out of a sense of duty or loyalty or coercion. He doesn’t want that, so he lays aside the royal finery and goes to live in her community as another peasant. As he shares her life, he comes, in time, to tell her of his love for her. In time, she comes to love him.

That is what the birth of Jesus is all about.
His truest intentions were there all along, but only after sharing her world for a while could he reveal them honestly and openly. That is what the birth of Jesus is all about.

Paul said it this way: “Jesus, who existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a bond-servant and being made in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:6-7).

God telling us he loves us is wonderful. God coming to live with us and like us in the birth of Jesus is heart-capturing.
