All All

Joseph Ton ran away from his native Romania to study theology at Oxford. As he was preparing to return to his homeland after graduation, he shared his plans with several students. They candidly pointed out to him that he would probably be arrested at the border.

One asked, “If you’re arrested, what hope do you have of being a preacher?” Ton asked God about this and was reminded of Matthew 10:16, “I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves.”

What chance does a sheep have of surviving, let alone converting, the wolves? Yet Jesus sent them out and expected them not only to survive, but to fulfill His mission. He returned and preached until the day he was arrested.

“I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves.”
As he was being interrogated by officials, Joseph said, “Your supreme weapon is killing, mine is dying. My sermons are all over the country on tapes now. If you kill me, then whoever listens to them will say, ‘This must be true. This man sealed his words with his blood. The tapes will speak ten times louder than before, so go on and kill me. I win the supreme victory.” The officer sent him home!

The world wants our best, but God wants our all. Jesus proved it when He stated, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.” (Mark 8:35).

When Joseph thought to save his life, he was in danger of losing his mission. When he didn’t care about losing his life, he won not only life, but freedom. Discover the freedom that comes with giving your all to God.
