Remembering

Every sacrifice, every loss, every death is remembered. That is why he came, so we would know that our losses, our pain, our grief, is shared by God and transformed into hope through the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus.

The Bible says it this way:

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of those faithful to him
(Psalm 116:15).

We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him
(1 Thessalonians 4:14 TNIV).

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging (Psalm 46:1-3 NIV).

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress (Psalm 46:7).

Almighty God, during this time of tumult, death, destruction, and fear, please use your people to be a blessing to those who are hurting, displaced, face war, and find themselves homeless ... wherever they may be.

In the name of Jesus, we ask for this power and your blessing. Amen.

Mother's Day Messages

Thanks, mom, for sharing your faith with me, with my children, and with hundreds of others through times of glorious joy and times of darkest night. Happy Mother's Day and thank you for what you have done to bless all of our lives with grace and faith. Your life leads me to remember Paul's words to Timothy about the source of his faith:

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. ... But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God–breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that all God’s people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 1:5 - 3:17 TNIV).
