Dr. Paul FaulknerDouble Talk, by Dr. Paul Faulkner   Real Audio

It’s called double talk, and business is using it a lot today. For example, people aren’t “fired” anymore, they are “decruited” or “dehired” or “deselected” or “discontinued.” Instead of “layoffs,” there is “degrowing” or “executive culling” or “job separation” or (get this one!) “job redundancy elimination.” AT&T called it a “forced management program.” But it really means folks losing their jobs.

I guess it’s okay to sugarcoat bitter pills; no sense in making tougher than they really are. But there is a difference in sugar-coating a bitter pill and deliberately intending to deceive folks and let them find out later what really happened.

The Bible has always called for honest dealings where everybody understands what’s going on. That simple, God-given principle shouldn’t be changed.
