    Key Thought

    Jesus knows that he will face the horrors of the Cross alone. He has no illusions about what will happen. Scripture has foretold it. His heart knows it. He lies on the verge of experiencing it. In Ray Overholt's hymn, "Ten Thousand Angels," the truth of Jesus' words are powerfully recognized: "He could have called ten thousand angels To destroy the world and set Him free. He could have called, ten thousand angels, But He died alone, for you and me." Jesus knows his death is coming. He knows he will be abandoned, betrayed, and denied. He goes through it anyway... for us.

But {after I die}, I will rise from death. Then I will go to Galilee. I will be there before you go there." Peter said, "All the other followers may lose their faith. But I will never lose my faith." Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth. Tonight you will say you don't know me. You will say this three times before the rooster crows twice." But Peter answered strongly, "I will never say I don't know you! I will even die with you!" And all the other followers said the same thing.
