Joy in Finding! - Luke 15:8-10

"Suppose a woman has ten silver coins, but she loses one of them. The woman will take a light and clean the house. She will look carefully for the coin until she finds it. And when she finds the lost coin, she will call her friends and neighbors and say to them, 'Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!' In the same way, the angels of God are very happy when one sinner changes his heart." (ERV) Full Text

    Key Thought

To lose such a coin was terrible. The monetary value would have been immense. The possible sentimental value would have made this an enormous lost. The value of what is lost is what calls for such a desperate, thorough, and passionate search. The value of the lost coin, coupled with the careful search, made finding the coin a cause for great celebration—and not just for this lady or her household, but for all of the lady's friends! How much more valuable are the people around us than one silver coin! So how can Christians not celebrate when salvation's light reaches the dark crannies of the lost soul? We must celebrate.

    Today's Verses in Context

Many tax collectors and bad people came to listen to Jesus. Then the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to complain, "Look! This man (Jesus) welcomes bad people and even eats with them!" Then Jesus told them this story: "Suppose one of you has 100 sheep, but he loses one of them. Then he will leave the other 99 sheep alone and go out and look for the lost sheep. The man will continue to search for the lost sheep until he finds it. And when he finds the sheep, the man is very happy. The man carries the sheep to his home. He goes to his friends and neighbors and says to them, 'Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep!' In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner changes his heart. There is more joy for that one sinner than there is for 99 good people that don't need to change their hearts. "Suppose a woman has ten silver coins, but she loses one of them. The woman will take a light and clean the house. She will look carefully for the coin until she finds it. And when she finds the lost coin, she will call her friends and neighbors and say to them, 'Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!' In the same way, the angels of God are very happy when one sinner changes his heart."
