Back Burner Living
by Paul Faulkner
We've all seen people living in crisis mode -- always hurrying, always getting ready for the next big thing in life. But a gentler way of living, more like the style of Christ, is "back burner living." You're cooking, you're getting stuff done, but you've prepared well enough ahead to put it on the back burner and you let it simmer and blend.
I don't know much about cooks, but watching my momma way back I saw the best soup she fixed was done a little here and a little there and put it on the back burner. She didn't jam it all in the pot and put it on high; there was no rush.
I bet life is best lived when we live deliberately, gently, adding the right things at different times and letting it simmer. That's good eating! And, maybe, that's good living, too.
