Free to Be Authentic

I read where a retired person said, "The best thing about growing old is you don't have to feel the need to impress anyone any more."

I've seen that happen in the field of marriage & family therapy, and in the ministry. These folks as they get older no longer worry about meeting the right people and saying the right things and being in the right places. They're free now to be themselves under God's grace.

Christians really should live this way all the time, because the one who counts is our loving Father. Being what he wants us to be — genuine, authentic — responding in the way he wants us to respond.

Paul says that those in Christ are "new creations" (2 Corinthians 5:17). That means that the old way of doing things has gone — and with it the old value system — and the new has come. Now that's real freedom.
