Don't Be a Diamond in the Darkness

"If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight is shining on you." (Luke 11:36)

Imagine for a moment that someone just gave you a new diamond ring. The stone is large and the clarity is perfect. It's extremely valuable and very eye-catching. You put it on your finger and hold your hand out for everyone to see and admire your new gift.

Now imagine that the person who gave you the ring tells you that you are never allowed to take the ring out of a dark room. That's right, a room so dark that you can't see your hand in front of your face. It is a room totally void of light.

In the darkness, a diamond is just another rock. However, if light were to suddenly come into that room, your diamond would sparkle and shine catching even the smallest glimmers of light and reflecting them all around the room. Brothers and sisters, without Christ, we are diamonds in a dark room. We cannot shine and display all the wondrous beauty God made us to have without His light.

When we walk with Christ, His love is reflected in us and then we shine and sparkle so brightly that others see us and want what we have — God's love, mercy, and grace revealed in the Gospel, the Good News about Jesus. The Good News that Jesus died for our sins so our lives can be joined to His life and we can share in His glory when He comes back for us.

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God's right hand in the place of honor and power. Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. (Colossians 3:1-4)

Let's live our lives like we are diamonds that let the floodlight of Jesus shine down on us!
