Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." (John 8:12)

The “light of life.” The illumination of a life truly worth living. In a world that is soaked in darkness, steeped in war and murder and pain and loss and deceit, Jesus’ words offer sweet comfort. No more do we fear the darkness and what it can do to us. No more do we walk in its inky company down alleyways and streets we would rather not name.

Jesus brings the Light of life, and our world changes.

In place of fear, there is confidence. In place of pain, there is comfort. In place of despair, there is hope. Only the Light of Jesus reveals such a life. Only His light is bright and pure enough to light our very souls with his power.

But in this world, and on this Internet, millions still live in darkness. They grope their way along, living from moment to moment, completely missing what’s truly precious. Jesus longs to enlighten them, but they can’t or don’t or won’t see His light for a variety of reasons. Maybe they’re jaded, or mis-informed, or scarred and scared. Or maybe they just have never met the real Jesus.

Today marks the seventh anniversary of Heartlight on the Internet. Heartlight exists to help spread that Light; to shine it more brightly on those who already know Jesus, and to brighten the darkened corners where Jesus is not known at all. We praise God that He has blessed this ministry to reach millions with encouraging, positive words and images that help them live for Jesus today.

Today also marks a new beginning for Heartlight. We are beginning the first in a series of new sites aimed at non-English speakers. Iluminalma (“light of the soul”) debuts today with our daily Today’s Verse devotional, weekly articles for Christian living, and more for those who speak Brazilian Portuguese. We’re thrilled to be working with people like Dennis Downing, Phyllis Gonçalves, Sydney Leite, and Max Lucado who have a deep desire and commitment to spread the Light of life in Brazil.

Over the next few months, you’ll see other sites come online: Spanish, French, Russian, and Italian. More languages will be added as we assemble teams of volunteer translators and editors.

The Light isn’t only for people who speak English, it’s for the world. And the message is simple — follow the Light, leave the darkness, and light your soul.

PRAYER: Father, we pray that you bless these efforts to spread the Light of life to a dark and troubled world. We are confident that you will provide the resources necessary to carry out your work. We thank you for the opportunity to be instruments of your ministry here on earth. Father, we believe with all our hearts that if we follow Jesus we will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life. We want nothing more than to let others know about the Light that fills and changes our very lives. Thank you for Jesus, our Light of life. Amen.
