White As SnowWhite As Snow
by Chad Nall

“No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool.’' (Isaiah 1:18 NLT)

It was not uncommon for school to be cancelled 3 or 4 days each winter in Alaska due to snow. Many nights you would go to bed and wake up to over 2 feet of snow on the ground. These tiny flakes, when in mass, have tremendous power. Roofs have been known to cave in under their weight; roads have been completely shut down for days by avalanches.

Snow also has incredible beauty. If you have seen snow-capped mountains you know what I mean. Driving to school every day during the winter, I would see Mt. Redoubt across the inlet from my home. Covered in snow, it is a sight I will never forget — a sight I took for granted for 18 years of my life. Snow can cover a polluted street making it a dazzling winter wonderland, and it transform a city into a beautiful maze of homes with dangling icicles.

Jesus has the power to completely remove sin from our lives.
Maybe that is why Isaiah the prophet writes to his people these words: “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Sin pollutes. It makes us dirty. Just like litter and pollution make cities look dirty and trashy, sin does that in our lives. But there is a power much greater than that of snow. It is the power of Jesus. Jesus transforms our dirty lives into lives of purity. Just like snow covers the streets of a dirty city making it once again beautiful, Jesus makes us white as snow — both on the outside and on the inside. Just as snow has the power to shut down school systems, Jesus has the power to make us into a new creation, shut down the power of sin in our lives, and the power to completely remove that sin from our lives. I pray that each of you claim this power and accept Jesus’9 incredible offer of forgiveness.

But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin. ... if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. (1 John 1:7,10 NLT)

Further reflection:

  1. Have you accepted Jesus and his forgiveness yet? If not, what is holding you back?
  2. How does knowing that you are pure in God’s eyes make you feel? Does it change the way you live your life?
