I'm Thankful for His ComingI'm Thankful for His Coming
by Jeff A. Jenkins

One of the great privileges of my life is co-hosting a weekly television program with a dear friend. As a part of the program we answer Bible questions phoned in by viewers. We receive a number of excellent questions every week. Recently a woman named Connie called and said to one of our operators that she would like to talk to a minister. She requested that the minister come to her. She is in a nursing home.

Today my co-host and I met about some upcoming programs, and I said let’s go visit this lady and see what’s on her mind. We walked into her room and introduced ourselves, and she acted as if she was shocked. She began to say over and over again, “I can’t believe that you would actually come to see me.” She informed us that she watches the program faithfully and wouldn’t miss it for anything. She then said again, “I can’t believe that you came to see me.”

“I can’t believe that you came to see me.”
It is not often that ministers get that kind of reaction. There have been times that people have refused to allow me in or they have made it clear that they wish I had not come to see them. But this sweet woman was different. You see, she has cancer and the doctors have told her she has only a short time to live. She just felt like she needed to visit with a minister and was grateful we took the time to see her. She acted as if we had made her day, but the truth is, she made ours.

As we left Connie, I couldn’t help but be reminded that we were all infected with a disease much worse than cancer (Romans 10:9-10). And that one much greater than any of us made Himself of no reputation ... coming in the likeness of men ... humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:7-8) He did that for you and me. May God help me to be as grateful for His coming as Connie was for mine!
