After the Honeymoon
by Deana Nall For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. Romans 10:2 (NASB) Lisa sat next to me in my college algebra class. One day Lisa walked into the classroom with her face beaming almost as brightly as the new diamond ring on her finger. She and her boyfriend had gotten engaged. Over the next few months, Lisa came to class every day brimming with excitement over details of their upcoming wedding. She and her fiance seemed so happy.
Romans 10:2 warns against having zeal without knowledge. The builders of the Titanic and Hindenburg had the zeal to create these magnificent structures, but a lack of knowledge resulted in two of the most tragic events of the 20th century. In the same way, our zeal for getting married cannot stand alone. We must spend time getting to know each other while praying for patience and wisdom for the months and years after the wedding ceremony. Its easy to be excited about getting married. The challenge lies in preparing for the kind of commitment required for a life-long marriage and a willingness to work to honor God daily in marriage. Pray today for a healthy balance of enthusiasm and wisdom in your marriage.
