“He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.” Romans 4:25 (NASB)

    Dead. We use this word to describe the absence of life in anything. You can’t talk on a dead phone line. You can’t feel your dead cheek after a trip to the dentist. You can’t have joy in a dead marriage. As long as these things are dead, they are useless.

    Romans chapter 4 describes the death present in Abraham and Sarah while they were still living. Unable to conceive, Sarah’s womb was dead. And close to the age of 100, Abraham was as good as dead, too. Yet God had promised Abraham and Sarah the unthinkable: the nation of God’s people was to come from them.

As always, God comes through on his promise.

    God could do anything, but could he really bring forth life from death? Abraham and Sarah (or as they are better called at this point in their journey, Abram and Sarai!) were the perfect test case. We know the rest of the story. As always, God comes through on his promise.

    The story doesn’t end there. God once again brought forth life from death — through the death and resurrection of his only Son. Because of Christ’s sacrificial death and victorious resurrection, we can have new life in him, even though we were once dead.

    We serve a God who powerfully transforms death into life; not just for Abraham, Sarah, and Jesus, but also for you and me. Thank him for this today!
