The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:25 (NIV) I have wonderful memories of my grandmothers house the soft creaking of the wooden floors, window units humming on hot summer days, and inviting smells from the kitchen drifting through the house. But the house had a problem. Built in the 1930s on a bad foundation on the soft, wet soil of the Texas Gulf Coast, my grandmothers house was gradually sinking into the ground. The problem was so serious that fixing it would cost more than the value of the house. Eventually, my grandmother reluctantly sold her home of more than 40 years and moved into a structurally sound retirement home.
When was the last time you checked the spiritual foundation of your home? Dear God, please give our family a solid foundation built on Jesus Christ. In His name, amen. |
