Someone has calculated that we spend twenty-five years working, twenty-five years sleeping, seven years playing, six years eating, five years getting ready, three years waiting and one year on the telephone. Of course for some people, the telephone figure would have to be higher! When you add up the way that you spend your lifetime, you may think, I dont have the time for what I want to do. Many of us feel like that rabbit in Alice in Wonderland who always ran around looking at his watch and exclaiming, Im late, Im late, Im late for a very important date!
Paul reminded the Ephesian believers that they should walk circumspectly not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:15-17) Pauls teacing on time management stresses that we must begin with an understanding what Gods will is for our lives. When we order our lives according to Gods will, then we have our priorities in place and we can spend our time wisely. So let Paul remind you to ask yourself, How I spending my time these days? Am I redeeming the time or frittering it away? |
