A great idea for the dinner table — or I guess breakfast, for that matter — is to spend a little time reading from the Good Book together. Or read nightly as the children go to bed. It’s a way to soothe the anxieties of the day and set their frame of mind.

You could set your child on a “book of the week” schedule. Children who learn to read one book often find it amazing how schoolwork becomes easier.

Take a child to the library; the public school library is often underused. Teach them how to use the library and how to choose good books. The librarians would love that!

Maybe you could even teach your children to shop for books on the Internet. And that’s a two-fer — it doubles up the reading skills.

Do your kids a favor, give them the love of books — especially the Good Book!
