“Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’ He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” (Matthew 8:24-26 NIV)

    Sometimes we become so frantic in the midst of chaos, we do not see the obvious solution that is right in front of us. Sometimes the Lord steps in and “calms the storm.” However, it is often the case the Lord allows the storm to rage and calms His child.

Oftnen the Lord allows the storm to rage and calms His child.

    The reason is simple, but profound. His plan is to work something out in His child that can only be accomplished through storm. As those who have our eyes fixed on God, our hope is not in the outward appearance of things, but in Him who is our peace.

    This is so aptly shown by the attitudes of Shadrack, Meshack and Abednago — our God is able to save us, but even if He does not . . . we have the peace to do the right thing in the face of seeming chaos.

“Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.’”
