Dietrich Bonhoeffer once noted how Jesus kept himself free free for other people. He would accept almost anybodys invitation to come to dinner, he would talk to any beggar. A persons past had no influence on Jesus choice of companions.
As a result, no public figure had a more diverse group of friends. He had friends ranging from centurions to pharisees to tax-collectors to prostitutes to victims of leprosy! Jesus was free from prejudice.
He was not willing to conform to his worlds idea of who a savior should be. So they ended up nailing him to a stake of wood. But he was free. Free from sin. Free from hatred. Free from wrong.
And hell set you free.
