During the winter of 1993, workers at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, made a remarkable, heartwarming discovery. While renovating a section of the museum, they found a photograph that had been hidden in a crevice underneath a display case. The man in the picture has a bat resting on his shoulders. Hes wearing a uniform with the wordsSinclair Oil printed across the chest. His demeanor is gentle and friendly. Stapled to the picture is a note, scribbled in pen by an adoring fan. The note reads:
You were never too tired to play ball. On your days off, you helped build the Little League field. You always came to watch me play. You were a Hall of Fame Dad. I wish I could share this moment with you. Your Son, Peter.
Many of us have individuals who have crossed our path in life who we would want to include in a Hall of Fame. Maybe its a parent or sibling, or a school teacher, or just a close friend. Our heavenly Father gives each one of us the capacity to love others and to be role models and heroes to others, regardless of economic status, education, or history. Today, take a moment to remember those who you have looked up to in life, and thank them for the example of love that they have set. The Apostle Paul said it well:
Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13) |
